UAE experts from the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), the
Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), the Abu Dhabi Health Services
Company (SEHA), and the Ministry of Health took part in a four-day training
course on the safe use of radiation in medicine, hosted by the IAEA in Vienna,
Austria.
The IAEA training course on Implementation of the IAEA
Safety Guide on Radiation Protection and Safety in Medical Uses of Ionizing
Radiation was held from 2 to 6 November, bringing together more than 50
representatives of IAEA Member States.
During the training course, the UAE experts from the
health sector shared their experiences and learned from the shared good
practices about how medical uses of ionizing
radiation should be carried out safely within the framework
of the IAEA’s basic safety standards.
The training programme was designed around the basic
requirements of the International Basic Safety Standards for Radiation
Protection and Safety of Radiation Sources (IAEA
Safety Standards Series No. GSR Part 3).
The course also reviewed the requirements of the Basic
Safety Standards for the safe use of ionizing radiation in medicine. It provided
recommendations and guidance to participants on meeting these requirements in
medical facilities in respected Member States.
