June Board of Governors Convenes at the IAEA Headquarters

From 3 to 7 June 2013, the IAEA Board of Governors convened its second session of the year to discuss a number of issues, including: strengthening of the Agency's technical cooperation activities; strengthening the Agency's activities related to nuclear, radiation, transport and waste safety; and nuclear verification.

H.E. Ambassador Hamad Alkaabi, UAE Permanent Representative to the IAEA, delivered a number of statements under various agenda items during the Board meeting including one on the implementation of the IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety adopted after Fukushima accident.
 
UAE's views on the need to address non-proliferation concerns through direct cooperation with the IAEA were highlighted in the interventions during relevant agenda items discussion. The one-week session approved important documents of the Agency related to Nuclear Safety requirements, and designated members to serve on the Board for the period of 2013-2014.
 
The Board also reviewed a number of documents, including the IAEA Annual Report for 2012, the Technical Cooperation Report for 2012 and the Safeguards Implementation Report for 2012.
 
The next IAEA Board of Governors meeting will take place from 9 to 13 September 2013.
