At the beginning of October a two-week regional Training Course for enhancing the Use of Salt Affected Soils and Saline Water for Crop and Biomass Production and Reducing Land and Water Quality Degradation in ARASIA States Parties was held in Dubai in collaboration with ICBA.

The purpose of the course, in which ICBA and the Environmental Agency-Abu Dhabi participated, was to provide knowledge and training on the use of nuclear and conventional techniques to determine soil water content and the use of crop Simulation (AquaCrop).

The training covered all aspects of water management and techniques to determine soil moisture content including the Netron Probe method.

The next steps will be to implement the techniques in the participants’ countries for regional projects. In doing so the provided salt tolerant genotypes should be used for the designed trials in 2016/2017 to reach the project outputs and outcomes.

Those regional Training Courses are part of the Cooperative Agreement for Arab States in Asia for Research, Development and Training related to Nuclear Science and Technology (ARASIA).
