UAE Receives IAEA’s Field Monitoring Mission to review its Technical Cooperation Programme

From 17 to 21 January, officials from the IAEA Technical Cooperation (TC) Department and the UAE Permanent Mission to the IAEA held a Field Monitoring Mission to review the implementation of technical cooperation in the UAE.

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) hosted the Review Mission to enhance the effectiveness of ongoing cooperation and to facilitate knowledge transfer to UAE organizations. A number of meetings held with stakeholders of the TC projects supporting the development of nuclear power infrastructure highlighted the progress of the national project towards meeting its target outcomes.

As part of the Review Mission, the IAEA delegation provided a two-day ‘Workshop on Monitoring and Evaluating Methodology of IAEA TC Projects to the UAE’ to more than 25 representatives of UAE stakeholder entities. The workshop provided participants with management tools to implement, monitor and assess cooperation projects within their organizations.

IAEA officials also visited Rashid Hospital in Dubai to review achievements of a national TC project with IAEA, aimed at strengthening patient radiation safety and dosimetry. The visit discussed lessons and best practices to be applied in a new project focused on enhancing the quality assurance of radiation in healthcare.

A final meeting with Ambssador Hamad Alkaabi, the Head of the UAE Permanent Mission, and Christer Viktorsson, FANR’s Director General, highlighted participants' positive feedback from the workshop, and the valuable knowledge it provided to all counterparts and team members of UAE TC projects with IAEA.
