UAE Shares its Experience on E-learning Platform for Nuclear Training

Over the past few months, the IAEA Nuclear Knowledge Management’s Cyber Learning Platform for Nuclear Education and Training (CLP4Net) has gone through an extensive upgrade to a new version of Moodle.

The new version is aimed at providing Member States and the regional network with additional features and online activities that provide quality and successful online training for students and staff in higher-education institutions around the world.

Since 2010, the Khalifa University benefits from the CLP4NET, the e-learning platform installed by the IAEA at the request of the UAE, to enhance nuclear education and training in the country.
In the framework of international cooperation, the Khalifa University provided the IAEA with an expert from its faculty staff for the Consultancy Meeting on Cyber Learning Platform for Nuclear Education and Training (CLP4NET), held from 17 to 21 June 2013, in Vienna.

As part of the consultancy meeting, Ms. Nancy Hoke, KU’s Instructional Technology Coordinator, who has been working on the upgraded version of the CLP4NET for the past 2 years, delivered training and provided recommendations to the IAEA Nuclear Knowledge Management (NKM) group on the usage of the new Learning Management System (LMS) installation.

Nuclear education and training was given to participants of the meeting from over 15 countries, in addition to the NKM staff of the IAEA.

The LMS is a key component in assisting Member States in their efforts to preserve and enhance nuclear knowledge and to facilitate international collaboration. The Khalifa University, including its Nuclear Engineering programme, has been actively using the LMS Moodle since 2009.

The online component of KU’s e-learning platform provides its faculty and students with a wide variety of activities and resources that enhance learning and foster successful results.

The Khalifa University shared its gained knowledge on working through all of the technological options and add-ons, and provided the staff of the IAEA NKM group relevant practical guidelines on the CLP4NET platform.

Thus, KU’s long-term experience and expertise in LMS contributes to the IAEA NKM group in assisting Member States. This was also done previously through the “Train the Trainer” meeting held by the Agency in Daejeon, Korea, in March 2013.
