Ambassador Alkaabi Chairs GC Side Event on INIR Missions

On 18 September, H.E. Ambassador Hamad Alkaabi, UAE Permanent Representative to the IAEA chaired a side event on the Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) Missions held on sides of the IAEA General Conference, and on the occasion of “IAEA five years of experience of the peer reviews”.

The side event provided a unique platform for participants to learn experiences from Member States that have recently hosted INIR missions. In line with the side event, the Ambassador Alkaabi shared the country’s experience of hosting INIR missions and adoption of recommendations made as a result of peer reviews in developing its national nuclear infrastructure.

The UAE is among nine countries, which have benefited from the Agency’s assistance in developing national nuclear infrastructure through peer reviews, since the establishment of INIR mission service.
For more than 80 participants from 25 newcomer and operating countries, the side event provided an insightful panel discussions and impactful keynote presentations.

Background

The INIR Mission to the UAE was conducted on January 2011 by IAEA team of international experts to review the status of the national nuclear infrastructure development. The INIR team concluded that “the development of the UAE´s nuclear infrastructure is progressing well and in line with the IAEA Milestones.”
