Consultancy Meeting to Facilitate Implementation of E-Learning Platforms

To foster regional partnerships amongst nuclear education and training institutions for collaboration in building nuclear expertise for the safe and successful application of nuclear technologies, the IAEA has developed various networking initiatives.

Among them, the Cyber Learning Platform for Nuclear Education and Training (CLP4NET) has been developed and installed at the Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research in 2010 at the UAE’s request.

A meeting to introduce nuclear experts from the IAEA Member States to the concept of the Cyber Learning Platform for Nuclear Education and Training (CLP4NET), was held from 25 to 28 September 2012 in Vienna, Austria.

The CLP4NET was developed and installed as a primary initiative of the Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, aimed at meeting the increasing demand for nuclear human resource development in the UAE to build the country’s first nuclear power plant. The CLP4NET at the Khalifa University serves as a prototype version to its followers at the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), as well as preliminary installations in Ghana and Argentina.

All installations are intended to serve as regional hubs for the various IAEA educational networks for its Member States.

This Technical Meeting on Implementation of E-Learning Platforms for Nuclear Education and Training provided participants with more hands-on experience of working with CLP4NET. The meeting also received recommendations on further development of the CLP4NET.
E-learning is recognised as the most modern and cost effective means to supplement traditional face to face education, and the way forward to access valuable information and knowledge regardless of time and place among Member States.
