UAE’s Nuclear Regulator extends Cooperation with France

Another nuclear cooperation arrangement between the UAE and France was finalized on 21 May 2013.

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) of the UAE and the French Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) signed a nuclear cooperation arrangement to extend cooperation on exchange of technical information and cooperation in nuclear and radiation safety, security and safeguards matters.

The new nuclear cooperation arrangement was signed by Ambassador of Hamad Alkaabi, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the IAEA, and Mr. Jacques Repussard, Director General of the IRSN, in Paris, France.

Since its establishment, FANR has signed several arrangements with foreign counterparts that will allow it to exchange information and technical expertise, train its personnel, join cooperation in nuclear safety research, and provide advice and assistance on nuclear regulatory activities.

FANR has concluded similar arrangements entities in France, Republic of Korea, Finland, and the United States, including technical exchange arrangements with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the French Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN). It has also established a similar arrangement with the Korean Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC), including regulatory expert organisations the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) and the Korea Institute of Nuclear Non-proliferation and Control (KINAC).
