UAE’s Nuclear Regulator receives the IAEA support in developing inspection program

From 26 to 28 November 2012, the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) hosted an IAEA expert mission to obtain support in developing its inspection program for the construction of the nation’s first nuclear power plant in their headquarters in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

During three days training sessions with FANR staff, the IAEA team and experts from countries with on-going nuclear power plant construction (US, Finland and France) delivered a specialized knowledge and led discussions regarding inspections and assessment activities during the construction phase of the nuclear power plants.
 
High level expertise shared their experience and lessons learned from construction oversight, provided with practical tools, with emphasis on how the UAE’s nuclear regulatory authority can conduct these activities for a construction phase of its NPP.
 
Around 40 participants from FANR, ENEC, EAD, RSB participated in the workshop.
 
The Workshop gave useful insights to further enhance the FANR oversight programme of the Barakah nuclear power plant construction as regards to inspection of manufacturing, quality assurance and site activities.
